Among more than 300 young people in North Hamgyong Province who volunteered to work at major sites of socialist construction in January this year, there are university graduates who settled at the revolutionary battle site management station in the area of the Paektusan Secret Camp, newly-built regional-industry factories, the Jungphyong Greenhouse Farm, etc.

They expressed their determination to devote all their strength and wisdom to the country, saying it is the duty of university graduates to shoulder the heavy burden on the country before others and add youth and vitality to the motherland.

Many other university graduates across the country also settled in the revolutionary battle sites in the area of Mt Paektu and schools in mountainous areas.

Fishery units in Kangwon Province are building up their material and technical foundations.

The Songdowon Fishery Station is pushing ahead with the building of a multi-purpose fishing boat equipped with modern fishing tackle at the final stage.

The employees of the Thongchon Fishery Station are overhauling fishing boats and repairing engines, hulls and fishing tackle.

During their military occupation of Korea from 1905 to 1945, the Japanese imperialists cooked up and promulgated all kinds of draconian laws in an extensive way to brutally kill numerous patriots and innocent people of Korea.

One of those laws is the “law on maintenance of public order”.

Between the late 1910s and the early 1920s, the Korean people from all walks of life put up a fierce anti-Japanese struggle to reject colonial rule and achieve national independence.

The Mozambican President called for working hard to prevent the spread of malaria in a speech made on the occasion of World Malaria Day on April 25.

The number of nationwide malaria patients reached over 11.5 million last year, he said, adding that malaria is one of the diseases whose incidence and mortality are the highest in the country and, particularly, it poses a serious threat to children under five.

Referring to the urgency of coping with the spread of malaria, he stressed that the government would take steps for vaccination, supply of mosquito nets and prophylactic treatment and bolster up cooperation with international organizations.

More than 50 housewives in Kanggye of Jagang Province volunteered to work at worksites for socialist construction last January. 

With an intention to repay the favours shown by the state which provided them with wonderful homes and various kinds of household goods when they were left homeless by floods, they went to work at the Uijin Farm of the Jagang Provincial Rural Economy Committee and the Unjong Vegetable Farm of Kanggye City. 

With a resolve to fulfil their civic duty in this year’s march for the successful completion of the five-year plan put forward by the Party, many women across the country, including women’s union members in Sinuiju City, Uiju County, Nampho Municipality, Chongjin City, North Hwanghae Province, Rason Municipality and the Tukjang area and Hamnam area coal-mining complexes, volunteered to work at major sites of socialist construction.  

The delegation of the Korean People's Army led by Pak Yong Il, vice-director of the General Political Bureau of the KPA, returned home on May 2 after taking part in the Third International Anti-Fascist Congress held in Russia.

The delegation was greeted at Pyongyang International Airport by generals and other officers of the Korean People's Army and military attaches of the Russian embassy in Pyongyang. 

A schoolchildren's art troupe of the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace led by Kim Song Il, vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, left Pyongyang on May 2 to visit Maritime Territory of Russia.

It was seen off at Pyongyang International Airport by officials of the Central Committee of the SPYL and members of the Russian embassy in Pyongyang. 

A ceremony for the 11th-term graduation and 13th-term opening of the vocational training school for disabled persons of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled was held on May 2.

Present there were Jon Chol Hi, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled, teaching staff, graduates, new students and parents.

Speeches were made at the ceremony.

The 12th Sports Contest of the Public Health Sector opened with due ceremony at the Taekwon-Do Palace in Pyongyang on May 2.

Such events as basketball (men), volleyball (men and women), table tennis, Taekwon-Do and tug of war are to be held in the contest, divided into two groups.

Present at the opening ceremony were Choe Tong Myong, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials concerned and public health workers including players.
