Respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sends greetings to President Xi Jinping

Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, sent a message of greeting to Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and president of the People's Republic of China (PRC), on Sunday.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un in his message extended warm congratulations on behalf of the WPK, the DPRK government and all the Korean people to General Secretary Xi Jinping and the CPC, the PRC government and the fraternal Chinese people on the 74th founding anniversary of the PRC.

After the founding of the PRC, the Chinese people have vigorously strived for building socialism and achieving the prosperity of the nation, while overcoming all sorts of challenges and difficulties, rallied close behind the CPC, the message said, and went on:

Over the last 10-odd years, the CPC with you, the general secretary, as its core has made remarkable successes in the cause of the party and state building by uniting and inspiring the entire party and people under the banner of the socialist idea with Chinese characteristics in the new era.

Autumnal herb cultivation in full swing

Now is the time for autumnal herb cultivation. 

According to Jon Ryong Il, staffer of the Koryo medicine production management bureau under the Ministry of Public Health, it is very important to cultivate medicinal plants at the right time in consideration of their biological characters and the meteorological and climatic conditions of the relevant regions. 

Medicinal plants are cultivated as a nationwide and all-people campaign in the DPRK as it regards the active protection of herb resources and the increase in Koryo medicine production as an important matter in protecting and promoting the people’s health, sprucing up the country’s natural scenery and handing down abundant resources to coming generations. 

Monument to the Great Victory at Yon Fort

The Monument to the Great Victory at Yon Fort in Yonan county town of South Hwanghae Province was built in the 17th century to commemorate the victory in the battle of Yonan Fort which was fought during the Imjin Patriotic War (1592-1598).

During the war, the Koreans organized volunteer army units in different parts of their country and waged the struggle to drive back Japanese invaders.

In the period of feudal Joson dynasty(1392-1910), Ri Jong Am(1541-1600), magistrate of Yonan, formed a volunteer army unit and repulsed over 3 000 enemy troops who mounted a tenacious attack on the fort in order to cut off the supply route of the Korean army in the western area, thereby defending the fortress and foiling the enemy’s scheme.

Autumn sports tournament of aged persons held

The autumn sports tournament of aged persons took place at Pyongyang Indoor Stadium between September 25 and 28.

The competition was open to men above 60 and women above 55 and any amateurs who wanted to participate in it. 

According to Jo Myong Guk, staffer of the Central Committee of the Korea Federation for the Care of the Aged who was one of the organizers of the tournament, the event drew more than 270 aged persons. Among them, over 200 took part in the badminton competition and over 170 applied for the table-tennis competition. 

Russia decries West’s bid for neo-colonialist legal order

The Russian Federation Council in a statement issued on September 25 strongly denounced as an intolerable attempt the West’s bid to replace the international legal system with a neo-colonialist one. 

It stressed that the Western bloc’s bid to substitute some kind of neo-colonialist “order based on rules” for the international legal system based on articles of the UN Charter deserves rejection by the world community. 

Such an attempt enables the Western nations to continuously exploit developing countries, it said, and called for strictly observing the widely accepted international legal principles and regulations and consolidating the global security structure based on the right role of the UN.  

Lao President calls for improving national security

Laotian President Thongloun Sisoulith recently called on the military and security forces to direct more effort into strengthening the security of the country. 

They should continuously brace themselves up to defend the peace of the country, repel any attacks by hostile forces and guarantee its political stability, he said. 

He stressed the need to closely cooperate with fraternal socialist countries and progressive nations to build up the military and security forces. 

DPRK women win different events at 19th Asian Games

DPRK women players won gold medals in the women’s team event of 10-metre running target shooting and the women’s vault and uneven bar exercise of artistic gymnastics at the 19th Asian Games. 

Ri Ji Ye, Paek Ok Sim and Pang Myong Hyang, women shooters of the DPRK, won the women’s team event of 10-metre running target shooting by scoring 1 655 points with high marksmanship and strong mentality.

An Chang Ok, a gymnast of the country, got two gold medals as she won the women’s vault and uneven bar exercise of artistic gymnastics by scoring 14.049 and 14.266 respectively.

Schoolchildren get together to talk about their pride

A meeting of schoolchildren "Flower buds of patriotism bursting under the Sun" took place at the Pyongyang Municipal Youth Park Open-air Theatre on September 28.

It was attended by Han Kwang Ho, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, Mun Chol, chairman of the Central Committee of the Socialist Patriotic Youth League, youth league officials and schoolchildren in Pyongyang.

The meeting began with the boast made by schoolchildren who came with the "Box Telling Beautiful Minds" and the speakers expressed their pride of preparing themselves to be true sons and daughters of the socialist country who are exemplary in study and organizational life and possessed of noble moral traits, while cultivating patriotism in childhood in the embrace of the benevolent father Kim Jong Un.

Nongsajiksol, agricultural book of antiquity

Nongsajiksol is a book which Jong Cho (?-1434), a government official and scholar in the period of the feudal Joson dynasty (1392-1910), compiled in 1429 by synthesizing and systematizing the farming methods and experience suited to the climatic and soil conditions of Korea.

The book is relatively small in volume as it contains the farming experience of limited areas.

However, it embraces lots of valuable historical data farmers should know for the cultivation of crops ranging from seed preparation to ploughing, manure preparation and cultivation methods of various cereal crops.

KCCRFC and DCFA host reception

The Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries and the DPRK-China Friendship Association gave a reception at the Okryu Restaurant in Pyongyang on September 28 on the occasion of the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Present there at invitation were Ambassador Wang Yajun and staff members of the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang and Chinese guests staying in the DPRK.

Present there were Choe Kyong Chol, minister of Public Health, Pak Kyong Il, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is chairman of the DPRK-China Friendship Association, and relevant officials.
