The Pyongyang Vegetable Science Institute, a modern vegetable research and production base of the DPRK, has recently bred nearly 10 species of high-yielding vegetables and is spreading them to many units.
Among them are tasty cucumber, tomato, hot pepper and carrot with high nutritive value and productivity. They are now popular with vegetable producers.
The institute is closely associated with the devotion of Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un working heart and soul to supply the citizens with fresh vegetables in all seasons.
In July 2015, the Supreme Leader visited the institute again. He gave precious instructions for its development as he made the rounds of the computer control room, bioengineering laboratory and hydroponic greenhouses of the institute to acquaint himself with its scientific research and vegetable production.
He indicated the orientation and ways for its research work, stressing the need to newly breed and spread tasty and nutritive, high-yielding greenhouse vegetable seeds, acclimatize world-famous vegetable species and proactively introduce advanced technologies.
And he made sure that a national scientific research and experience-sharing workshop for officials in the greenhouse vegetable production sector was held there every year and manuals, books and multimedia presentations related to the greenhouse vegetable cultivation were made and distributed.
After his on-the-spot guidance, the institute established effective cultivation methods for producing hundreds of tons of fruit vegetables per hectare, developed and introduced into different units a modern hydroponic greenhouse of Korean style, and bred a large number of new varieties of vegetables.
