Japan goes on with illegal whaling

Despite the strong opposition from the international community, Japan is still persistent in its commercial whaling.

A whaling ship set sail from the port of Shimonoseki in Yamaguchi prefecture on June 10.

The ship is planned to hunt more than 170 whales by mid-November in collaboration with another ship which left a port in Hiroshima prefecture.

Several ships have already engaged in hunting mink whales in the coastal waters of Hokkaido.

As an international denunciation of its wrongdoings became stronger, Japan slyly withdrew from the International Whaling Commission at the end of 2018.
