KPA medics perform mission as special detachment of WPK for defending people

The combatants in the medical sector of the Korean People’s Army put their heart and soul into defending the people for 10 days and nights since they were urgently committed to the emergency anti-epidemic front in Pyongyang.

As soon as it received the special order of the Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea on urgently throwing a contingent of KPA medics to the emergency anti-epidemic front in the capital city on May 15, the commanding team of the Ministry of National Defence scrupulously planned and commanded the operation to spearhead the anti-epidemic campaign in the capital.

They learned about the distribution of pharmacies in each region correctly again and newly set up over 50 temporary mobile medicine service stations in close collaboration with officials of Party and government organs.

They also took timely practical measures to provide the people with every convenience including the making of over 2 million medicine packets, the compilation and printing of thousands of copies of explanations about folk remedies and Koryo therapies, some 32 500 copies of the collection of various kinds of general information on hygiene and over 1 600 registers on reception and sales of medicines and urgent distribution of them to improve the effectiveness of medical treatment and supply of medicines.

The KPA medics actively supplied medicines in detail according to residential quarters, families and individuals in line with the present anti-epidemic situation. They not only provided medical treatment to visitors to the pharmacies but also covered a long distance to pay sick calls on patients.

They spearheaded the emergency anti-epidemic fight by providing medical service to the employees of industrial establishments which step up production continuously even under the top emergency anti-epidemic situation and families in 11 districts of the municipality along with the supply of medicines and politely informing them of folk remedies and traditional Korean therapies according to the symptoms of sequelae.

Trucks for the transport of medicines assigned to over 670 posts worked around the clock to supply necessary medicines to the citizens.

The medics counselled visitors and provided medical service while supplying medicines to pharmacies for 24 hours.

Many stories were told about them who continued to visit workplaces and families of residents day and night for the patients suffering from fever and worked hard for the timely supply of medicines to the needy families.

Some of them visited the family of an honoured special-class disabled soldier to give medical treatment when they heard that he fell ill, others volunteered to provide medical service to residents of a neighbourhood unit in place of the doctor in charge as they heard that he was ill and still others delivered medicines to the families when they were informed of the list of medicines and their addresses by phone.

The military truck drivers voluntarily did good things for the people. They helped dong officials and neighbourhood units near the pharmacies remove household waste during their breaks and carried fresh vegetables from cooperative farms in the suburbs to supply them to the residents.
