DPRK leader sends wreath to Chinese embassy in Pyongyang

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un sent a wreath to the Chinese embassy in the DPRK as a token of his deep sorrow over the death of Jiang Zemin, former general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People's Republic of China.

Ri Il Hwan, member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, laid the wreath bearing the name of Kim Jong Un at the mourning place of the Chinese embassy on December 2.

Nation concentrates on improving quality of secondary education

The education sector powerfully pushes ahead with the work for improving the quality of the universal 12-year compulsory education.

Kim Jong Hak, a department director of the Education Commission, said that one of the important ways to improve the quality of education is to constantly update teaching methods.

The Education Commission attached importance to and pushed ahead with the work for making officials go down to education units in their charge to create and introduce superior teaching methods capable of increasing the intellectual and application abilities of students.

Korean officials visit Chinese embassy to mourn death of Jiang Zemin

Officials of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, the DPRK Cabinet, armed forces organs, ministries and national agencies visited the Chinese embassy in Pyongyang on December 2 to mourn the death of Jiang Zemin, former general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the People’s Republic of China.

Present there were Ri Il Hwan, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK, Kang Yun Sok, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly, Kim Song Ryong, vice-premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Mun Song Hyok, deputy department director of the Central Committee of the WPK, Lieutenant General Kim Min Sop, vice-minister of National Defence, Pak Myong Ho, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Kim In Chol, vice-minister of Public Security, Pak Kyong Il, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries, and Hong Kum Chol, vice-chairman of the Pyongyang Municipal People’s Committee. 

A wreath in the joint name of the Central Committee of the WPK, the Standing Committee of the DPRK Supreme People’s Assembly and the DPRK Cabinet was laid in front of the photo of the late Jiang Zemin.

National sci-tech presentation and veterinary medicine show held by veterinary and anti-epizootic sector

The national sci-tech presentation and veterinary medicine exhibition of the veterinary and anti-epizootic sector was sponsored by the Korean veterinary and animal husbandry technology association of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea through videoconferencing from November 28 to December 2.

The event, which was held on the theme of “Putting prophylactic treatment of diseases of domestic animals and poultry on scientific basis”, was aimed at widely disseminating and generalizing the achievements made in the course of conducting brisk scientific research activities for strengthening veterinary and anti-epizootic work.

In the period, participants shared experience concerning the issues to which importance should be attached in activating animal husbandry.

Laotian embassy gives banquet to mark birthday of Laos

The Laotian embassy in the DPRK gave a banquet at the Taedonggang Diplomatic Club in Pyongyang on December 2 to mark the 47th anniversary of the founding of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

Invited to the banquet were Pak Sang Gil, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Pak Kyong Il, vice-chairman of the Korean Committee for Cultural Relations with Foreign Countries who is concurrently vice-chairman of the DPRK-Laos Friendship Association, officials concerned and members of the diplomatic corps in the country.

Present there were Sisavath Khamsaly, Lao ambassador to the DPRK, and his embassy staff members.

Intl Day of Persons with Disabilities marked

A meeting was held at the People’s Palace of Culture in Pyongyang on December 2 to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. 

It was attended by Yun Chang Il, chairman of the Central Committee of the Korean Federation for the Protection of the Disabled, officials of relevant units, disabled persons and their families and working people in Pyongyang. 

A video documentary introducing the achievements made in the country’s effort for the protection of the disabled this year was screened at the meeting, followed by a performance “Our great country” given by the artistic group of the Korean Art Association of the Disabled. 

China launches manned spacecraft

China sent the manned spacecraft Shenzhou 15 by a Long March 2F carrier rocket at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Centre on November 29.

During their stay at the space station, the crew members are to conduct various missions including space scientific experiments.

Educational level of rural schools elevated

Officials in the education sector and educators across the country give priority to bridging the gap in education level between cities and rural villages and direct efforts to it. 

Hwang Chol Myong, department director of the Education Commission, said that according to the detailed organization by the commission, the central teaching training school and provincial, city and county training schools and excellent educators in the cities went down to rural schools to help their teachers prepare lessons and enhance their qualifications from the beginning of the year. 

Last year members of the central teaching training school went to Minam Senior Middle School in Sukchon County to set an example in the work of reducing the disparities in education level between cities and the countryside. This year they also offered both material and moral assistance to Paeksong Senior Middle School in Phyongsong in its effort to improve the education level such as the drafting of teaching documents, introduction of new teaching methods and improvement of teaching abilities of its teachers. 

Afforestation for erosion control promoted

The Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea stressed it as an important issue to push ahead with afforestation for erosion control all the year round.

This year afforestation for erosion control has been pressed on with in all parts of the country, producing substantial results, and some of them have carried out such task for the next year. 

Kangwon Province has  undertaken the relevant projects around the mountains surrounding Kimhwa county town in such a way as to create national models and Haeju City in South Hwanghae Province carried out its planned task in a qualitative way and earlier than others in the province.
