A spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry in a press conference on February 22 denounced the US for violating its sovereignty as to the Taiwan issue. 

With regard to the US bid for selling tens of millions of dollars’ worth of munitions to Taiwan, she branded it as a violation of the One-China Principle and infringement upon China’s sovereignty and security interests. 

Saying the US should terminate the military connections with Taiwan, she announced that China would take resolute and powerful measures to safeguard the national sovereignty and territorial integrity. 

Answering a question raised as to the US congressmen’s Taiwan visit, she said that China firmly opposes the US intervention in the Taiwan issue in any mode and with any excuse. 

She strongly urged the US to stop sending wrong signals to the separatist forces seeking “independence of Taiwan”.
