Chinese FM spokesman decries Japan’s arms buildup
April 3, 2024Japan recently increased the "defence expenses" in its budget for 2024 by 16.9 percent over last year, setting the highest record in history.
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry of China said at a press conference on March 29 that Japan's military tendency has always been a great concern of neighbouring countries and the international community due to the modern history of aggression of Japanese militarism.
In recent years Japan has drastically adjusted its "security policy", increased its "defence" budget every year, steadily eased the restrictions on arms export and pursued an epochal development of military capabilities, he disclosed. This compels its neighbours in Asia and the international community to be deeply sceptical about Japan’s commitment to "exclusive defence" and peaceful development, he noted.
He strongly demanded Japan fully respect the security concerns of neighbouring countries, seriously reflect on its history of aggression and advance along the road of peaceful development.
