Natural monument-Jasan ginkgo tree

April 11, 2024

A female ginkgo tree grows in Jasan-ri, Phyongsong, South Phyongan Province.

Planted in about 1280, it is 26 metres tall, 6.8 metres round at the root collar, 5.5 metres round at the chest and 23 metres wide at the crown.

Its trunk is greyish brown.

A leaf is 5-6cm wide and 3-4cm long which means it is smaller than those of other gingkoes, and is not bisected at the tip.

The tree bears especially a small amount of fruits.

As it adds beauty to the surrounding landscape and is of significance in ecological study, it was designated as a living monument in January 1980.
