Holy house of homeland of Taekwon-Do
April 22, 2024The grand Taekwon-Do Holy House whose roof is covered with red tiles nestles in a thickly wooded forest in Sports Village on Chongchun Street in Pyongyang.
It was inaugurated in April 20 2012 to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of President
Covering a total floor space of 12 000 square metres, the house has a three-room history hall showing the history of Korean martial arts, the origin and development of Taekwon-Do and the history of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, the Taekwon-Do Science Institute, physical and other training grounds, a sci-tech learning space and multifunctional hall.
Over the past 12 years, it has disseminated the history of Korean martial arts and the history of development of Taekwon-Do to local and foreign visitors, publicized various events hosted by the ITF, including meetings, exhibitions and martial art games, and provided training in Taekwon-Do.
In 2018, it provided the venue for a variety of events, such as the one held in commemoration of the 100th birthday of Choe Hong Hui, the first president of the ITF, a Taekwon-Do exhibition and martial art competitions.
Old martial art books of the Korean nation and historical information about martial art masters are on display in the first room of the history hall and the books and data dealing with the noble love for the nation of President
The third room is dedicated to information about ITF’s development history and its structure, continental federations under it, books related to Taekwon-Do and players who exalted the honour of the homeland of Taekwon-Do in different international games including the Taekwon-Do World Championships.
There are also data about martial art masters of the country.
In the past, the holy house was visited by many Taekwon-Do practitioners, amateurs and journalists from different countries.
While looking round the holy house, they said that it is an excellent structure that can only be built in the DPRK, the homeland of Taekwon-Do, and a fine structure that gives pride to not only Koreans but all the Taekwon-Do practitioners and inseparably links the Korean people with all of them.
