Good results in domestic sports games

June 4, 2024

Steadily high offensive speed

Teams which have taken part in the second-stage games of the 2023-2024 DPRK men’s national premier league clashed for the second games on May 19-20.

A noticeable thing is that the offensive speed of each team has remarkably improved as compared to the first-stage games. As a result, scores have relatively increased as the speed of transition from defence to attack has got faster and more kicking opportunities have been created.

In the match between Hwaeppul and Wolmido teams on May 19, a high speed of offensive was ensured constantly, and in the course of this a total of five scores were registered.

Basketball league matches come to end

The youth-level tournament came to an end as part of the fierce basketball league matches in 2024.

Men and women players from the April 25 team, who were triumphant in the 3x3 basketball games, fully flaunted their skills in the five-person basketball respectively, winning the matches by overpowering all the opponent teams.

The youth-level matches were followed by the first-division (men and women) matches.

In the 3x3 basketball, the Pyongyang team came first by winning five matches.

In the women’s games, the April 25 team won the title.

Meanwhile, the five-person basketball contest is getting fiercer as the days go by.

Because final rankings will be decided by two rounds of men’s and women’s league matches.

At present, the Pyongyang and April 25 teams are predominant respectively in the men’s and women’s events.

Diverse techniques displayed

The 2024 badminton challenge competition (first division) took place at the Badminton Gymnasium on Chongchun Street.

The event brought together over 80 male and female players from the Defence Sports Club of the Ministry of National Defence, Amnokgang, Pyongyang Railway Bureau and Haebangsan sports clubs and Korea University of Physical Education. They played singles, doubles or mixed doubles.

Divided into four groups, the singles were played on a round-robin basis. Those who came first in the groups played round-robin matches again for the final rankings, while the men’s and women’s doubles and mixed doubles were played on a knockout basis.

Participants unfolded wonderful scenes as they employed diverse and tactful techniques including unexpected and powerful strokes, light touches aimed at vacant spots at the right and left sides, horizontal pushing and hairpin shots.

Players of the Defence Sports Club of the Ministry of National Defence achieved good successes by displaying high skills. Yu Mi Song came first in the women’s singles, Pak Kum Yong and Pak Ryong Gun in the men’s doubles and Choe Sol Ju and Rim Su Jong in the women’s doubles.

Those from the Amnokgang Sports Club also played well. Kim Ye Chol won the men’s singles, while Kim I Chon and Ri Il Sim came first in the mixed doubles.
