The 28th National Cooking Festival took place at the Pyongyang Noodle House from March 31 to April 3 on the occasion of the greatest auspicious April holiday of the nation.
Taking part in the festival were cooks, waitresses and housewives selected from the fields of the Guidance Bureau of Public Catering Service, public catering establishments of Pyongyang and provinces (municipalities), external service, ministries and national agencies. Presented to it were more than 800 distinctive dishes and drinks and over 270 scientific and technological achievements.
The exhibition of compulsory dishes was highly appreciated by visitors for the good taste of national dishes such as Pyongyang cold noodles of the Okryu Restaurant and noodles in flat vessel with meat of the Chongnyu Restaurant and dishes presented by the Ansan Noodle House under the Phyongchon District Restaurants Management Office, the Okryu Restaurant under the Taedonggang District Restaurants Management Office, the Ragwon Noodle House under the Pothonggang District Restaurants Management Office and others.
The cooks of the Pyongyang Hotel, the Pyongyang Koryo Hotel, the Haebangsan Hotel, the Pothonggang Hostel, the Sosong Pub under the Sosong District Restaurants Management Office, the Jongphyong County Hostel of South Hamgyong Province and restaurants under the Sunam District Restaurants Management Office in Chongjin City of North Hamgyong Province made various kinds of famous dishes, drawing attention of the visitors.
On display at the cooking sci-tech achievement exhibition were valuable inventions conducive to putting the cooking on a scientific and standardized basis in the forms of products, visual aids and multimedia.
A demonstration of cooks and a skill competition of housewives in Pyongyang revved up the atmosphere of the festival.
Present at the closing ceremony held on April 3 were Minister of Commerce Kim Yong Sik, chairman of the Central Committee of the Cooks Association of Korea, Ri Yong Min, director of the Guidance Bureau of Public Catering Service, officials concerned, cooks, waitresses and housewives selected from Pyongyang and provinces (municipalities).
The results of the jury were announced and diplomas, medals and certificates were awarded to the excellent units and participants.
