Fan Dance is one of the typical folk dances of the DPRK.

The folk dance created and developed by the Korean people has a history as long as that of the fan.

Fan Dance, which has so far been handed down, was created in the modern age, and it is danced with folding fans decorated with beautiful flower pictures or feathers in both hands.

The basic movements of the dance consist of the unfolding and turning of fans, which are characterized by elegant, gentle and lively rhythms.

The movements of unfolding fans make their shapes diverse and beautiful in the air.

The movements of turning the wrists and fans give the audience the impression that they are seeing a full-blown flower moving. And the dancer’s elegant and harmonious rhythms and beauty of curves evoke a gentle emotional response from the audience.

The dance is in two kinds: one is danced with fans in both hands or with a fan only in one hand and the other one is performed with a fan in one hand and a kerchief in the other.

As a valuable dance heritage element reflecting the beautiful and noble spiritual world of the Korean people, the dance has been adapted to meet the modern aesthetic taste and is put on stage at present.
