Mozambican President calls for striving to prevent spread of malaria

The Mozambican President called for working hard to prevent the spread of malaria in a speech made on the occasion of World Malaria Day on April 25.

The number of nationwide malaria patients reached over 11.5 million last year, he said, adding that malaria is one of the diseases whose incidence and mortality are the highest in the country and, particularly, it poses a serious threat to children under five.

Referring to the urgency of coping with the spread of malaria, he stressed that the government would take steps for vaccination, supply of mosquito nets and prophylactic treatment and bolster up cooperation with international organizations.

According to information available, 608 000 people died of malaria in 2022 in the world.

The damage was the most serious in Africa and the number of deaths on the continent accounted for 95 percent of the global death toll.
