Russia continues to spur the buildup of defence capability for defending national sovereignty and security.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a munitions industry committee meeting on April 23, stressed the need to actively update the military hardware in conformity with the rapidly changing forms and methods of military operations on the basis of experience gained in the special military operations.

It is necessary to effectively adapt weapons and equipment to the forms and methods of military operations and there is every possibility for Russia to do so, he said.

He noted that the curriculum of military schools and academies should be improved and at the same time the tactical manual for the ground force should be carefully and deeply updated in consideration of the experience of military operations. He also called for speeding up the development of various unmanned weapons and rapidly developing laser weapons capable of destroying various targets including aircraft and missiles in the future.

In addition, he said that it is important to build a multipurpose network of space systems in time to ensure all types of reconnaissance and continuous communications even in the complex jamming situations and widely encourage the military application of homemade patented software products and developed AI products.

Late in April the first deputy prime minister of the Russian government inspected the Dnieper army group deployed in Zaporozhye Region.

He met commanding officers of the unit to learn about the operation of drones and the production of drones in the area and looked round new-type military and technical equipment.

Russian designers have already developed a missile to destroy the West-made fighters, including US-made F-16 fighter jets. The missile is reportedly very accurate, capable of shooting down a wide range of aircraft including irregularly manoeuvring targets and designed to be mounted on any fighter planes.

They also developed a drone-borne missile capable of attacking the armoured technical equipment, shelters, defence facilities and others of the enemy.

On May 9, a grand military parade took place at Red Square in Moscow to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War. The columns of service personnel of all services and arms, participants in the special military operations, cadets of military schools at all levels, and personnel of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the National Guard, the Federal Security Service and others marched past. They were followed by various kinds of military equipment and hardware including armoured cars, tanks, self-propelled artillery pieces, missile systems and drones, headed by the legendary T-34 tanks. Fighters portrayed the Russian flag in the sky above the square.

The military parade was a momentous event which demonstrated the will of the Russian people to firmly defend the sovereignty and security of the country by adding lustre to the history of war victory and steadily bolstering up the defence capabilities.
