French President Emmanuel Macron asserted in a TV interview on May 13 that Europeans should rid itself of dependence on the US.

Saying that if Europe fails to get ready for achieving “strategic independence” from the US within 5-10 years, it will lose its ability to fulfil its responsibility, he argued that the European Union has now been compelled to face the challenge called “single-handed” due to the persistent America-first doctrine.

Answering the question as to the way to cope with the US’ levying of tariffs, he stated that he opposes trade war and that they will fight it out.
