Child Health Day
May 20, 2025May 20 is Child Health Day.
The declaration on the rights of child was adopted on a world scale in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989 to provide children with a better world where a peaceful, safe and clean environment is guaranteed.
Observing the day is fairly significant in giving people a correct understanding of health care for children, creating a relevant social atmosphere and imparting to mothers common knowledge about child health care.
On this occasion in the DPRK, public lectures are held, through the online lecture system, on the importance of the intake of various micronutrients such as vitamin A, iodine, iron and zinc in the growth and development of children and the practical problems arising in child nutrition care and prevention and treatment of diseases.
A website in the national communications network will intensively offer general information about such problems as physiologic jaundice and weight loss of babies, which often arise in the nutrition management for the one-month-olds, with the main stress put on the nutrition in the first 1 000 days of birth when infants can achieve the fastest physical growth and brain development, and common knowledge about the intake of supplementation foods for weaned babies, such child diseases as diarrhoea and indigestion and child health care.
It is also planned to conduct information activities through the mass media in order to kindle public interest in the improvement of children’s and women's health.
It is difficult to implement such projects without the full support, active care and sincere efforts of the Party and the government.
The Workers’ Party of Korea and the DPRK government, which put children forward as the king of the country, pay close attention to the nutrition and health care for children.
The Third Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK in June 2021 set it as the most important policy to provide children, future of the country, with more improved conditions for bringing them up even by investing a huge sum of money. And in February 2022, the Sixth Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly adopted the Law of the DPRK on Childcare.
Accordingly, all the children of the country from seven months to six years of age have been supplied with dairy products by the state every day under the well-regulated supply system. Children at nurseries and kindergartens and even hospitalized kids are all supplied with dairy products.
Thanks to the warm loving care of the Party and the state, children across the country are growing up healthily to be the stout pillars of the country.
