Neighbourhood unit No. 68 in Kumsong-dong No. 3 of Mangyongdae District is well-known as a harmonious neighbourhood unit full of virtues and affection.

The households, neighbourhood unit, street, village, park and resting places are all smart and clean and they were built and furnished by the concerted efforts of the members of the neighbourhood unit.

The neighbourhood unit organizes life in a colourful way.

They give an art performance and hold cheerful dance parties frequently amid special interest.

Kim Song Gun, a resident, said: “When our pensioners perform guitar ensemble and housewives chorus and folk solo, all the residents of our dong come to see them. We lead a pleasant life singing songs and dancing.”

“It was exciting to see sports and amusement games played with the neighbouring neighbourhood unit on the occasion of International Women's Day this year. Residents rooted for their neighbourhood units and it was really a spectacle. That day, I refereed the matches and I felt an urge to attend the game. Such harmony of the residents was achieved by the effort of the leader of our neighbourhood unit. Everyone follows her as she is sympathetic, meticulous and devoted to the neighbourhood unit,” said an old man Kim Kwang Ok

The residents call her “our neighbourhood unit leader”. She cares for every affair of the neighbourhood unit, big and small, including the birthday of aged persons, youngsters joining the army and children attending an opening ceremony of new school year.

Her kind deeds are on every resident’s lips. She helped Jang Sang Gyun, an old man living in apartment 2 on the third floor, solve his problem when he was worrying about his children. When a resident was hospitalized due to an unexpected accident, she visited the hospital almost every day. And during the emergency anti-epidemic period, she unsparingly provided needy families with rice, non-staple food and medicines and even nursed the sick persons.

“The residents in the same neighbourhood unit are never strangers for me. If every family is comfortable and free from care, the affairs of the neighbourhood unit and the country will go well, I think,” said Ki Un Gyong, leader of the neighbourhood unit.

Once, when she was laid up with fever, every member of the unit visited her to take measures for treatment and help her with household chores.

In the course of doing the work of the neighbourhood unit by pooling minds, all its members formed a harmonious family.

Last year, the neighbourhood unit sent aid materials associated with their sincerity before others to Sinuiju City, Uiju County and other areas of North Phyongan Province which suffered flood damage and devoted their unsparing sincerity to the Hwasong area construction site and other grand socialist construction sites.

Ki Un Gyong and members of the neighbourhood unit visited the construction site of 10 000 flats in the fourth stage of the Hwasong area to hand aid materials over to the builders and give an art performance in April this year on the occasion of the 93rd founding anniversary of the Korean People's Revolutionary Army.

Enjoying the love and respect of all the villagers, Ki leads a fulfilling life, she said.

In March, she took part in the Third National Meeting of Active Neighbourhood Unit Leaders and had a photo session with the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

"In the future, too, I will do more work to make our neighbourhood unit a large harmonious family full of virtues and affection and a group of patriots,” Ki Un Gyong said.
