A meeting was held on June 9 to mark the 70th founding anniversary of the West Pyongyang Locomotive Corps of the Pyongyang Railway Bureau.

Present there were Kim Tok Hun, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, Pak Jong Gun, vice-premier of the Cabinet and chairman of the State Planning Commission, Kuk Myong Ho, minister of Railways, officials concerned and officials and employees of the West Pyongyang Locomotive Corps.

Kim Tok Hun conveyed a congratulatory letter sent by the WPK Central Committee to the workers and officials of the locomotive corps.

The WPK Central Committee in the letter stressed that the West Pyongyang Locomotive Corps is a glorious workplace as it had made steady progress under the wise leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il who personally came to the spot during the arduous postwar reconstruction, took warm care of the crewmen and led them step by step to work miracles for increased transport in the era of the Workers' Party, and that it is the largest locomotive operation unit in the rail transport sector.

The letter said that the revolutionary spirit and feats of the preceding generations, who gave birth to the first Chollima workteam in the rail transport sector through an indefatigable struggle, regarding the trust of the Party and the leader as the eternal lifeline, and brought about collective innovations in the van of the drive for extra-haulage on schedule without accident to implement the decision of the 18th Plenary Meeting of the Fifth Central Committee of the WPK, are being carried forward as the soul and breathing of the transport workers of the new generation and that this is a source of the greatest pride of the locomotive corps.

The employees of the corps have kept in good order the engines, precious property of the country and the people, to ensure their normal operation, spruced it up as befitting the unit associated with the leadership exploits of the Party and established cultured practice in production and life at a high level. The title of model technical innovation unit, “Lathe No. 26” Model Machine Prize and the title of the Three-Revolution Red Flag which were awarded to the corps reflect the assiduous and meticulous work attitude of its employees.

The letter highly praised the workers and officials of the corps for meeting the country's transport demand and making positive contributions to economic construction and the improvement of the people's wellbeing, true to the pledge they made before the Party and the country.
