Experiencing horror and thrill
June 15, 2025People can have such hair-raising adventures as a flight between sky-scrappers on board a light aircraft, encounter with large fish of prey like shark in the deep sea and rafting in the fast-flowing river.
The location of such escapades is just the Rungna 4D Simulation Cinema in the Rungna People’s Pleasure Ground.
“Lots of films have so far been produced since our cinema opened to enable people to experience various situations in the virtual world. The current blockbusters are ‘Beautiful Pyongyang (4)’, ‘Alpine Skiers’, ‘Mad Mouse’ and ‘World Travel’,” said Ri Sol Mi, a diffuser at the cinema.
According to her, film themes can be classified into joy, optimism, bravery, boldness, horror, etc. and many people like fiction films such as “The End of the Age of Dinosaurs”.
Movie audience feel surprise and fear as they see in virtual reality the ecological environment of the dinosaurian age of over 150 million years ago and the fight of the prehistoric monsters, the horror of the sudden encounter with sharks in the Antarctic Sea, the thrill of joy of sliding down the slopes of the Masikryong Ski Resort and the pleasure of bombing and destroying the enemy warships on a bomber. These are all exciting and unforgettable experience.
Rim Song Jin, a lecturer of Pyongyang College of Building Materials Industry, said: “I have come here for the first time and watched five films with my son. Rather than seeing the films, I felt as if I was experiencing various circumstances in them for the diverse audio-visual, kinetic and spatial effects of the 3D glasses. I have been fully relieved of my fatigue here.”
A student from Nampho on a visit to Pyongyang said: “Today, on that seat, I have enjoyed a thrill of having a bird’s-eye view of Songhwa Street in the beautiful capital city aboard a microlight, the Alps, pyramids of Egypt, the Parthenon in Greece and the Colosseum in Rome. It’s really an impressive experience."
Visitors can also fight a battle with enemies with the VR shooting machine in the hall using pistols and machine guns.
They are reluctant to leave the Rungna 4D Simulation Cinema where they can experience all such feelings in the virtual world.
