Historical relic—Songbul Temple
June 23, 2025The Songbul Temple in Mt Jongbang in North Hwanghae Province was first built in 898 and rebuilt in the period of the Koryo Dynasty (918-1392).
It comprises the Kungnak, Ungjin, Myongbu and Unha halls, the Chongphung and Sansin pavilions and a five-storeyed stone pagoda.
The temple shows well the features of Koryo architecture including the concise and solid structure inheriting the style of temple architecture of the Koguryo Dynasty, deep green tanchong, or colourful painting, sculptural decorations, etc.
