School focuses on improved qualifications of teachers
July 1, 2025Amid a surge of enthusiasm of education officials and educators for bringing about an educational revolution in the new century, Sanop Senior Middle School in Songyo District, Pyongyang, has achieved successes in improving the qualifications of teachers.
Bearing in mind that a radical improvement in education in the new century is, in essence, that in teachers’ qualifications, the school set phased goals for improving their qualifications and, on the basis of it, provided substantial guidance to make sure that detailed plans were worked out and pushed ahead for attaining them.
It directed major efforts to preparing all teachers as competent educators by conducting in a methodological manner the work to increase their teaching abilities on the basis of a correct assessment of the practical ability of each teacher through the inspections of classes at work and meetings for joint review of teaching.
It fired teachers with the zeal for competition by assigning each of them the task of presenting more than one new teaching method and helping them solve all problems.
The school intensifies research and discussion on the principle of introducing and improving excellent teaching methods while making sure that teachers make preparations for teaching contests in a substantial way in close contact with the instructors of the district teachers’ in-service training school.
It also organizes discussions on new teaching methods, seminars on educational experience and meetings for joint review of teaching every Thursday which is designated as the day of department to ensure that all teachers have the ability to teach creatively in keeping with the trend of educational development.
The school also conducts the work to improve the qualifications of new teachers in various forms and methods.
What is noteworthy is that each competent teacher takes charge of one new teacher and helps his or her charge solve problems arising in working out teaching plans and giving good lessons.
The teaching contest and meeting for joint review of teaching of new teachers are arranged frequently to generalize exemplary points.
As a result, more than 40 teachers won the title of October 8 Model Teacher and the certificate of registration of new teaching methods in recent years, and the school was honoured with the title of twice-honoured red flag school.
