Workshop manager with a ‘bright eye’ for technical innovation

July 20, 2025

Kim Kuk Chol, workshop manager of the nutritious rice powder workshop at the Pyongyang Children’s Foodstuff Factory, is recognized as a workshop manager who is very good at designing inventions and technical innovations and a competent field official.

After graduating from the automatics faculty of Kim Chaek University of Technology with honours, he has worked at the factory for 16 years. In these years he came up with three national inventions and dozens of technical innovation plans conducive to modernizing production processes, introduced them into production, and developed over a dozen new products including rice powder for helping children grow tall and fruit rice powder.

The employees of the factory say that he has a “bright eye” for finding the seeds of technical innovation.

It is not accidental.

He, who knows the state of operation of all production lines in the workshop like the palm of his hand, introduced into production the method of making nutritious rice powder based on high-speed cooking method this year.

He racked his brains to make highly nutritious rice powder with better quality and finally decided to upgrade the existing nutritious rice powder production method.

Seeing him always looking at every nook and cranny of production processes carefully in order to find out anything to be innovated, some of the employees wondered if more technological transformation was needed as they were mass-producing products with modern production processes at the moment.

But his decision was firm and he was a man of action.

After conducting painstaking research day and night for three years, he finally developed an effective method for producing rice powder and established the nutritious rice powder production process based on high-speed cooking method.

It enabled the workshop to remarkably improve the quality of products while saving a lot of manpower.

“He makes constant efforts to keep abreast of the developing times. Being sensitive to the world sci-tech trend and thinking deeply to improve the quality of products—these are the primary factor that made him have a ‘bright eye’ for technical innovation, we think,” say workers in his workshop.
