Slovakia opposes EU’s anti-Russia sanctions
July 20, 2025Slovakia rejected the 18th anti-Russia sanctions package of the EU at the meeting of EU foreign ministers on July 15.
The new anti-Russia sanctions were not adopted as Slovakia vetoed them.
Slovakia, which depends largely on the Russian gas, reportedly opposed it, expressing concern that if it accepts the EU’s sanctions plan on suspending the import of Russian gas by early 2028, it may cause confusion in the supply of gas and energy price hike.
