Local areas are changing rapidly as the historic cause of regional rejuvenation for the simultaneous and balanced development of the whole country is being stepped up.

As new houses are concurrently built everywhere in the socialist countryside, people’s moving into new houses has become commonplace.

Modern regional-industry factories, which conform to the relevant regional features and whose production has been automated and put on a scientific basis at a high level, were built in 20 cities and counties across the country last year, with the result that the first-year task of the Regional Development 20×10 Policy put forward by the Workers’ Party of Korea for the rapid improvement of the material and cultural life of the regional people was successfully carried out. They are now carrying on production on a normal footing.

Local people are growing to be civilized and creative human beings.

The present thrilling new era when the regions undergo sea change is neither a change brought by the times nor a result achieved at a time of plenty.

As a matter of fact, it has long been an inevitable convention and a matter of course for the provinces to fall behind the capital.

Therefore, the WPK took on it as its duty to pay equal attention to the living of all the people throughout the country and actively solve problems arising in their living and set the removal of the centuries-old conventional concept as a historic task it should bravely take upon itself, however challenging the task might be.

Accordingly, the laws on the development of cities and counties, on the supply of cement for the building of cities and counties and on the development of the socialist countryside were newly enacted.

This provided a legal guarantee for correctly carrying out the Party’s intention to turn all cities and counties into highly civilized regional towns epitomizing development aspect peculiar to the DPRK and regional characteristics in all domains of politics, the economy and culture, and it became legal for the country to embody the idea and contents of the Party’s programme of the rural revolution in the new era and to provide farmers with the most ideal living environment.

At the Fourth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un clarified the rural revolution programme in the new era and expressed his conviction that victory will surely be achieved in the historic undertaking to definitely put the country’s agriculture on a track of sustainable development and bring about a tremendous change of rural communities.

And at the Tenth Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly, he said that it is an immediate task facing the government and a long-cherished desire of the Party to eliminate the centuries-old backwardness, narrow the gap between the capital and the provinces, develop the regional industry in a comprehensive and balanced manner, while spurring the distinctive development of each regional economy and creating a competitive development trend.

At the 19th Enlarged Meeting of the Political Bureau of the Eighth Central Committee of the WPK, he said that the Party’s Regional Development 20×10 Policy is a line for tremendous change and a gigantic revolution to realize the elementary desire of regional people and bring about a fundamental turn in the realm of the Korean people's understanding and a project for fulfilling the centuries-old cherished desire as well.

The programme of rural revolution in the new era and the Regional Development 20×10 Policy, the brilliant crystallization, were born according to the plan and ideal of the General Secretary who is so concerned about the improvement of the living standards of the regional people with the affection of parents, who care more for the children living in faraway places and suffering hardship, and who is ushering in a new era of regional industrial development.

News of the rejuvenation of regions, where the cherished desires of their people and the Workers’ Party are realized, is being reported one after another in the new era of regional rejuvenation.
