Three new national youth records established
August 2, 2025Han Il Ryong of the DPRK set a new record and won a gold medal at the 20th Asian Marathon Championships held in China in March, giving great delight to the sportspersons and other people of the country.
Encouraged by this, DPRK players set three new national youth records at the 2025 U-20 track and field championships.
The championships took place, divided into 35 events, bringing together over 260 men and women athletes from nearly 30 units. The contest went on in a fierce atmosphere for the strenuous efforts of players of all units to reach high records at any cost.
Choe Hyon Ik and Choe Chong Song of Korea University of Physical Education set a new national youth record in the men's 100m race and the men's 110m hurdle race respectively.
Kim Myong Gwon, Ri Ju Hyon, Ri Hyon Gyong and Paek Jin Hyang of the Pyongyang Sports Club bettered the national youth record in the mixed 4×400m relay.
Choe Hyon Ik also won the men's 200m race, attracting the attention of experts.
The players of Korea University of Physical Education and the Kigwancha Sports Club were successful in the men's long jump and high jump and some other events.
The Pyongyang Sports Club, the Songchongang Sports Club and several other units were dominant in the women's events.
Jong Yong Yon of the Chongjin Railway Bureau Sports Club took the first place in the women’s 800m race and Jo Mi Phyong of the Marathon Team of the Ministry of Construction and Building-materials Industry in the women’s 5 000m race. Other players of various units fully displayed the physical and technical abilities they had acquired in ordinary times.
