The Jangchon Vegetable Farm in Sadong District, Pyongyang, is well-known as a rural town and rich farm to the whole country.

The farm is now sprucing up its seat with a view to glorifying its locality generation after generation. In particular, farmers there plant fruit and other trees of good species, flowering shrubs and ground-cover plants a lot around their village and houses on the occasion of the rural hygiene week and day, thus adding beauty to the village.

Fundamental changes have been made in the ideological consciousness, creativity, work attitude and cultural level of the farmers.

All farmers are enrolled in the study-while-you-work system to prepare themselves to be future pillars of the rural town. Among them are those who invented and made highly efficient farm machines and implements and won national exhibitions of farm machines and the youths who bred new varieties of vegetables with painstaking efforts, making it possible to ensure the high level of scientific and intensive greenhouse vegetable farming with emphasis put on fruit-bearing vegetables, instead of leaf vegetables like in the past.

In the evening after finishing the day’s work, the farmers refresh themselves at the Jangchon Health Complex and enjoy themselves, singing songs and playing musical instruments at the hall of culture.

Meanwhile, they have a pleasant time at a sports park and swimming pool, playing volleyball and table tennis and swimming.

This is not confined to the farm alone.

As modern rural houses mushroom across the country, many rural areas have turned into rural towns.

In the new era of rural development, when people and nature change beyond recognition, the agricultural workers bring about successes in agricultural production by fulfilling their duty as creators and masters of rural culture.
