SPA delegation takes part in Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament

The delegation of the Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea took part in the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31.

The conference, attended by the president and the secretary general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the speakers of parliaments and parliamentary delegations from different countries, discussed the issues of strengthening cooperation and multilateralism among the parliaments in achieving global peace and prosperity and realizing international justice.

Pak In Chol, speaker of the Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK, made a speech at the conference.

Denouncing the high-handed and arbitrary practices of the imperialists who plunge the world into social instability and chaos in order to maintain their monopolistic and hegemonic position, he noted that in order to build a world where peace, justice and prosperity are guaranteed, each country should achieve independent development and, at the same time, establish international relations respecting the sovereign rights of all countries.

The Supreme People's Assembly of the DPRK is dynamically conducting activities for defending the sovereignty and dignity of the country and achieving the prosperity and happiness of the people by its own efforts, he said, referring to the fact that the DPRK people are achieving miraculous successes in the struggle for the comprehensive development of the state, closely rallied on the strength of patriotism around the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un.

He stressed that the DPRK would fulfill its responsibility for genuine international justice, global peace and stability and promote the development of relations with friendly parliaments respecting the dignity and national interests of the DPRK.

During the conference, Pak In Chol separately met and had talks with the president and the secretary general of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia, the chairperson of the State Great Hural of Mongolia, the chairperson of the Vietnamese National Assembly and the vice-president of the Lao National Assembly.

The chairwoman of the Federation Council of Russia said that she regarded it as a great honour to visit the DPRK in 2018 and meet Comrade Kim Jong Un, president of the State Affairs, and asked him to convey her sincerest greetings to Kim Jong Un.

The main factor that put the relations between the two countries on the highest level in history as alliance and comradely relations is the fruition of the deep intimacy between the top leaders of Russia and the DPRK, she said, stressing that the bilateral relations proved their worth smashing all kinds of challenges in the past two years since the conclusion of the treaty on comprehensive strategic partnership.

The Russian stand in supporting the DPRK remains unchanged, she said, affirming that the Russian Federation Council and the State Duma would be faithful to the spirit of the treaty between the two countries.

The chairperson of the State Great Hural of Mongolia asked him to convey the greetings from Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un, hoping that the diligent and patriotic DPRK people making fresh progress in various fields including economic construction would achieve greater successes in the future, too.

The talks expressed full support for the struggle of the DPRK people in building a powerful state and the will to develop the friendly and cooperative relations between parliaments.
