Nicaragua aspires after independence against imperialism
August 21, 2025Nicaragua is located in the middle of the American continent and half of its territory is covered with forests. It is noted for many volcanoes and frequent earthquakes.
The country’s name is derived from Nicarao, renowned chief of an aboriginal Indian tribe.
Nicaragua, which had been under the domination of the European colonialists for a long time, achieved independence on September 15 1821 and declared republic in 1838.
Even after independence, the Nicaraguan people waged a strenuous struggle against the continued imperialists’ interference and domination and for democracy.
They waged an armed struggle under the guidance of the Sandinist National Liberation Front from May 1959, finally overthrowing the dictatorial regime in July 1979.
They are still waging a dynamic struggle for independence against imperialism.
In November last year, Nicaragua severed diplomatic relations with the Israeli Zionist regime in protest against Israel’s ceaseless massacre and criminal acts against the Palestinians in disregard of the demand of the international community. This is an expression of its invariable solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The struggle of the government and people of this country now gains support and encouragement from the anti-imperialist independent countries.
In February the Venezuelan foreign minister condemned the US Secretary of State for branding Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela as “enemies of mankind” responsible for the issue of immigrants, saying that the one and only enemy of mankind is the US which has brought chaos and poverty to the world for decades by using the war machine. The US is trying to do harm to these countries by resorting to blockade, sanctions and invasion, but the peoples of Nicaragua and his country are fighting resolutely to overcome them.
Meanwhile, many countries have established diplomatic ties and promoted cooperation with Nicaragua which opposes foreign interference and domination and advances along the road of independence against imperialism.
The DPRK established diplomatic relations with the Republic of Nicaragua on August 21 1979.
