A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry demanded that Japan see its history of aggression squarely and reflect on it in a press conference on August 16.

On August 15, Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba made an offering to the Yasukuni Shrine and the Minister of Agriculture, Forest and Fisheries and Minister of Finance of Japan visited it. In connection with this, China expresses deep dissatisfaction with Japan’s open challenge to the justice of history and human conscience, he said.

The Yasukuni Shrine, the spiritual tool for and symbol of the war of overseas aggression ignited by Japanese militarism, houses the name tablets of 14 A-class war criminals charged with the grave crime of aggressive war, he said, adding that China strongly demands that Japan be careful in its speech in terms of the issue of history, including the Yasukuni Shrine, and resolutely break from militarism.
