At a meeting with governors and mayors on August 18, the Venezuelan president said that 4.5 million-strong paramilitary forces would be mobilized from across the country to cope with the US’ growing threat of aggression.

Paramilitary forces in urban and rural areas would be further strengthened and combat forces organized at all factories, he said, stressing that it is a measure to ensure peace and security of the country.

Earlier, the Venezuelan defence minister denounced and rejected the US’ attempt to take aggressive military action in the Caribbean under the pretext of “anti-drug operations”.
