A spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry at a press conference on August 21 condemned the US for escalating tension in the Caribbean.

Referring to the fact that the US has deployed its warships in the waters near Venezuela, he emphasized China’s stand against any act of infringing upon other country’s sovereignty and security, contrary to the fundamental purpose and principle of the UN Charter.

China opposes the act of using armed forces or threatening with them in international relations and outside forces’ interference in the internal affairs of Venezuela with any excuse, he said.
