Exhibition of sci-tech achievements in field of furniture and finishing building materials held
August 29, 2025The National Exhibition of Sci-tech Achievements in the Field of Furniture and Finishing Building Materials-2025 took place at the Sci-Tech Complex between August 5 and 12.
The exhibition, which was held on the theme of “Progress in ensuring domestic production and improving quality”, was aimed at contributing to the construction of 50 000 flats in Pyongyang and the implementation of the regional development policy by further promoting the domestic production of furniture and finishing building materials.
On display at the exhibition were over 3 600 multipurpose and functional furniture pieces, finishing building materials, architectural lighting and light decorations in hundreds of kinds.
It was largely divided into categories of furniture, finishing building materials and architectural lighting and light decorations.
The examination of the exhibits was divided into appraisal by experts, that by the masses and evaluation of booth building and technical exchange.
On display were also miniatures of production processes presented by building-materials production units carrying on production by relying on raw materials available in provinces.
A colour plastering mortar production process and construction method using waste materials from stone processing presented by North Phyongan Province drew the attention of experts. The province developed a method of colouring natural or artificial sand by a coating method and completed a method of making colour mortar for plastering walls and floors and a relevant construction method. This construction method reduces the cost by one-third as compared to that of tiling walls.
North Hwanghae Province exhibited many products including various kinds of decorative tiles which protect structures from the effects of different aggressive mediums while beautifying their indoor environments, household goods of value as handicrafts, stonecrafts and wooden craftworks that can be used as ornaments for indoor decoration, garden lamp poles, various kinds of metal hooks, wall sockets and sockets.
Pyongyang Municipality presented many building materials with a very high proportion of domestic production and excellent technical specifications, including different kinds of plastic pipes, artificial turf, coating materials for interior and exterior for different uses, functional filling materials and inorganic foam lagging materials.
Meanwhile, the Taean Friendship Glass Factory presented hollow glass, bronze glass, blue glass and so on. Among them was multipurpose double-clad glass that can be used for the outer walls and floors of structures and as windshields of vehicles.
The Chollima Tile Factory presented over 170 articles in nine kinds. Among them were picture tiles depicting natural scenery which drew the attention of many visitors. And dressed brick was praised by experts as it is a new finishing building material which has ornamental effects while retaining heat insulation and classic beauty.
Light pink cement based on brown coal debris and kaolin, earthquake-proof and non-conducting pillar material used for the construction of tall structures for special uses and mineral-wool lagging decorative composite wallboards presented by the State Academy of Sciences were favourably commented upon by experts as they were made with domestic materials 100 percent.
“The products we developed are featured by the fact that they are convenient for the execution of construction and cost low,” said Kim Chol Nam, researcher of the State Academy of Sciences.
The show also drew many other building parts made by recycling waste materials, highlighting the great zeal of provincial areas for turning waste into treasure.
During the exhibition there took place a sci-tech presentation along with various technical exchanges between the participating units.
