National sci-tech exhibition of nanotechnology sector held

August 31, 2025

The national sci-tech exhibition of the nanotechnology sector-2025 took place at the central light industrial sample products hall from August 19 to 26.

The exhibition, held on the theme of “Extensive introduction and application of nanotechnology” under the sponsorship of the Nanotechnology Association of Korea of the Central Committee of the General Federation of Science and Technology of Korea, was aimed at sharing and disseminating scientific research successes and experience gained by the nanotechnology sector.

"Nanotechnology guarantees a new qualitative leap in the fields of advanced science and technology including IT, bioengineering, new materials technology, new energy technology and space technology and in the overall economic sectors such as metallurgical, machine-building and light industries and agriculture," said Kong Ryong Hyon, vice-president of the State Academy of Sciences.

On display were more than 210 proposals and products presented by dozens of units including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, the Nano Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences and the Agricultural Nanotechnology Institute of the Academy of Agricultural Science.

Experts highly appreciated the nanotechnology products presented by the Nano Engineering Branch of the State Academy of Sciences.

For example, graphene, which is produced with biomass abundant in the country, is cost-effective and has a wide application in metal, battery, composite materials, adsorbent materials, etc.

A bentonite-nano graphite composite adsorbent, which is effective in refining oil of various kinds, and a nano titanium electrode also drew the attention of visitors.

The former can be used effectively for refining and recycling edible oil and various kinds of waste oil. And the latter was made by adding a base metal oxide to the electrode coating and the life of the electrode has increased three times and the current efficiency 1.3 times.

The booth of Kim Il Sung University was also a crowd-puller as it displayed a sealing packing for transformer made of nano composite rubber and a nano oxide lubricant additive.

The performance of the sealing packing has been improved by using the nano composite material manufacturing technology, and its lifetime has been increased two times as compared to the previous ones. The nano oxide lubricant additive can improve the overall performance of lubricant, protect vehicle’s engine, save a lot of fuel and increase the life cycle of lubricant more than two times.

Many other nanotechnology products stimulated the interest of visitors, including a far-infrared radiator using carbon nano exothermic paint, a nano energy-boosting water maker and an ionized water maker.

During the exhibition, a lecture was given on recent development trends of nanotechnology.
