Russian presidential aide Nikolai Patrushev stressed the importance of ensuring safe navigation in a maritime council meeting related to the defence of national interests at the North Pole on August 26.

Saying that it is important to ensure safe navigation in the North Pole where climatic conditions are harsh, he noted that it is needed above all to maintain a high level of preparedness of the forces for and means of coping with emergency situations.

It is also necessary to take measures to develop domestic communications and meteorological forecast systems and pay particular attention to ensuring ecological security in carrying out infrastructure and industrial projects, he emphasized.
