Chinese permanent rep decries US’ veto at UNSC
September 24, 2025The Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations censured the US for exercising its veto again against a resolution demanding an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip of Palestine in the UN Security Council on September 18.
Referring to the unprecedented humanitarian disaster being created in the Gaza Strip by Israel’s military attacks which have been lasting for nearly two years, he said that the UNSC’s effort was hampered by the US whenever it tried to prevent it.
He could not but ask how many innocent people should lose their lives to achieve a ceasefire, how many tragedies should occur to ensure the smooth delivery of humanitarian aid and when the UNSC can perform its official responsibilities, he said, criticizing the US for abusing the right of veto.
He strongly demanded the US actually work to achieve a ceasefire and refrain from doing any harm to the role and authority of the UN.
Israel should immediately stop military actions in the Gaza Strip and discontinue any dangerous actions which will aggravate the situation, he noted.
