Leisure centre favoured by all
September 29, 2025Many people visit the April 15 Children’s Flower Garden where all kinds of flowers are in full bloom and which is provided with all conditions for cultural recreation activities in a distinctive style.
Visitors often say that they have come to have a vivid idea of plants and expand the general knowledge of flower cultivation and that it is really good to see flowers and enjoy a cultural and emotional life at the same time.
“Our flower garden facing the Mangyongdae Schoolchildren's Palace was built more than 30 years ago as an extracurricular education base for developing love for nature among schoolchildren and imparting knowledge of various kinds of plants to them. Last year it was wonderfully renovated to ensure they would enjoy a richer cultural and emotional life,” said manageress Kim Jong Im.
More than 12 700 trees of good species and over 55 000 flowers are growing in the flower garden covering an area of 16 hectares.
According to the manageress, most popular in the compound is the plant exhibition house in which 3 000-odd plants of some 150 species, from tropical to polar ones, are growing.
The exhibition house is divided into the general, tropical, temperate and polar plant halls, where the visitors can hear the explanations of a guide robot about the biological characteristics of rare plants and various pieces of common knowledge and see multimedia presentations containing broad knowledge of plants.
Young people play games at the volleyball and basketball courts and old people are also as much competitive as young people at the badminton court in the flower garden. In the service building for folk amusements and video games schoolchildren lose count of time enjoying themselves at the amusement facilities.
Also luring in the flower garden are boating in a lake where an artificial waterfall cascades down and the dancing fountain which changes into different heights and various shapes in time with the melody.
When the dark sets in, the nocturnal view of the flower garden arouses striking emotion for the various shapes and colours of decorative lighting sparkling at all of its buildings.
That is why many people come to the flower garden in the evening, too.
