Interests and rights of the aged safeguarded
October 1, 2025In the DPRK, elderly people spend the rest of their life receiving respect and care of the state and society as the revolutionary seniors who have made contributions to national prosperity and social development.
The Korea Federation for the Care of the Aged undertakes the mission to safeguard the rights and interests of the aged and ensure that they can live happily with better mental and physical health.
Having established a system for the care of the aged on a nationwide scale, the federation conducts various activities in order to implement the state policy on the care of the aged through its provincial, city (district) and county committees.
It set up a system whereby older people can present to their relevant local committees for the care of the aged problems arising in their everyday life, demands for their health and participation in social activities and needs in living, and makes sure that important issues are reflected on the state policies.
It also provides them with conditions and environment for taking an active part in a variety of social activities according to their will and abilities.
Even after they reach their retirement age, those competent persons working at scientific and educational institutes or engaging in technical jobs are allowed to remain in their occupations or to work as advisers according to their will and demand.
Lots of elderly persons actively participate in various social activities to contribute to the development of the national economy and society by dint of their experience and knowledge. A variety of events like competitions and exhibitions of creations of the aged are organized, as was seen through the art exhibition of old artists held in April in celebration of the 113th anniversary of the birth of President
The federation also works to strengthen the system for the protection of health of the aged which is designed to take preventive and curative measures by giving them health check-ups regularly in contact with health institutions. It also produces and distributes publications about common knowledge of health care of the aged so that elderly persons and their family members can be well aware of gerontology and geriatrics and take steps for early treatment.
Various measures are also taken to provide them with conditions for cultural and leisure activities.
On such holidays as the International Day of Older Persons, amusement games of the aged are organized throughout the country and special services are provided for them at theatres, cinemas and other public service networks.
The Central Committee of the Korea Federation for the Care of the Aged participates in international meetings and workshops held on international and regional scales to promote exchanges and cooperation in the sector of the care of the aged.
