A banquet was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on September 30 to celebrate the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.

President Xi Jinping attended the banquet with senior officials of the Communist Party of China and the state and personages at home and abroad.

Xi made an important speech.

After the founding of new China, the party has led the people to be self-reliant and continuously make strenuous efforts for the past 76 years, thus achieving remarkable successes which would shine long in history, he said.

This year, China has promoted high qualitative development in an effective way amid the complicated situation, put in effort to ensure and improve the people’s living and pushed ahead with the work to control the party comprehensively and strictly, thus attaining new successes in all affairs of the party and state, he added.

He stressed the need to ensure that decisive progress is made in basically implementing the socialist modernization by properly planning and successfully fulfilling development goals, tasks and strategic measures in the period of the 15th five-year plan in a new journey of a new era.

He called for applying true multilateralism in practice and building a community of shared destiny hand in hand with each country.

That day, there was a ceremony to lay a flower basket at the Monument to the People’s Heroes at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

President Xi, together with senior officials of the party and state and delegates from all walks of life, paid silent tribute to the memory of the martyrs who dedicated their lives to the cause of liberating the Chinese people and founding the PRC.
