DPRK weightlifters top medal tally in 2025 IWF World Championships

The International Weightlifting Federation recently announced that the DPRK men's and women's weightlifting teams took first place respectively on the medal table of countries and region in the 2025 IWF World Championships held in Norway.

At the first championships after the IWF newly set the relevant men's and women's body-weight events and standard records, the DPRK weightlifters displayed their high physical and technical abilities, giving an impression to many experts and spectators and evoking a great sensation from the world weightlifting circle.

The DPRK proved at the championships that it firmly takes first place in the world weightlifting circle, the IWF said, adding that the DPRK team has showed definite predominance in various international games after returning to the world weightlifting arena in 2023.

The chairperson of the IWF, and members of the Asian Weightlifting Federation and weightlifting associations of different countries said that the DPRK players not only were very excellent in their physical and technical abilities but also showed their good sportsmanship. They praised the DPRK players for achieving admirable successes and having recently shown amazing abilities in light- and heavy-weight events.

Chinese media outlets said that the DPRK women players displayed their mysterious power and bagged 14 of 15 gold medals in total in the five body-weight events after the championships started on October 2, adding that DPRK players have renewed world records and standard records one after another in international games in recent years.
