Pak Thae Song, member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and premier of the Cabinet of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, made a field survey of various sectors of the national economy.

At the Pukchang Thermal Power Complex, he learned about the supply of coal for thermal power plants and the operation of generating equipment and called for rationally forming the water-supply and preheating system and other auxiliary systems to reduce heat loss to the maximum and tightening equipment and technical management to maximize the output of generators while reducing coal consumption.

He met and encouraged the coal miners who are conducting a dynamic socialist patriotic movement for increased coal production at the underground cutting faces of the Tokchon Coal Mine of the Tokchon Area Coal-mining Complex and the Ryongdung Coal Mine of the Kujang Area Coal-mining Complex.

He stressed once again the importance of the duty of the coal mines in South Phyongan Province in fully meeting the increased demand for coal in the national economy and called for conducting brisk mass movements including the high-speed tunnelling movement to secure enough new coal fields and for raising the proportion of mechanization at cutting faces to steadily increase coal production.

The field consultative meetings discussed the issue of increasing the power production by improving the efficiency of generating equipment and the issue of fully supplying materials, equipment and parts needed for coal mines and establishing a more well-regulated supply service system and took appropriate measures.

Meanwhile, he learned about the harvesting and vegetable cultivation at the Sampho Farm and the Pobu Farm of Kaechon City and the Songdo Farm of Pakchon County and stressed the need to generalize the farming methods and experience whose advantages were proved in this year's farming in conformity with the characteristics of relevant regions.
