Now when the DPRK has entered the era of comprehensive development of socialism, acrobatics of the country are also achieving eye-opening successes.

As already reported, DPRK acrobats collected top prizes at three international circus festivals held between last July and October.

In this regard, The Pyongyang Times reporter Hwang Jong Ryol interviewed Kim Yong Jin, section chief of the National Acrobatic Troupe.

Could you introduce the achievements made by our acrobats in detail?

The physical stunt “Flyers” won the Idol gold prize at the world acrobatics festival “Idol-2025” held in Moscow in July and the physical stunt “Horizontal bar with swinging board” was awarded the Grand prize at the 4th Without Borders International Circus Festival held in St Petersburg from September 11 to 14. At the 20th Wuqiao International Circus Festival held in China from September 28 to October 3, the Gold Lion prize was awarded to the physical stunt “Fly higher” and the Silver Lion prize to the physical stunt “Wire rope walking”.

Especially, the “Horizontal bar with swinging board” won the admiration of the jury and spectators at the 4th Without Borders International Circus Festival.

In the stunt, our acrobats flawlessly performed such difficult acts as the triple forward somersault and triple sideward somersault after passing through a ring at a height of 10 metres, quadruple backward somersault, triple backward somersault and grasping the horizontal bar after somersaulting backward from the swinging board. In particular, the quintuple forward somersault from the floating swing performed by acrobat Yu Jong Min, the first of its kind in the history of the festival, splendidly decorated the climax of the event.

Even the names of the actions sound like very difficult ones. I guess the jury must have been quite amazed.

Sure. All ten members of the jury gave 10 points in both technical and artistic scores to the DPRK’s physical stunt “Horizontal bar with swinging board” which was perfect in all elements from the technical acts performed to the tune of the dynamic melody of the song “My Powerful Motherland” to the costumes, rhythm and illuminations. So the stunt earned the full 200 points, the top score unprecedented in the history of the festival.

The president of the State Acrobatic Company of Russia who was the foreman of the festival jury said that the stunt of our acrobats enraptured them and appreciated us for repaying their invitation with the excellent performance. The general director of the festival organizing committee excitedly said it was a wonderful performance and the young acrobats of the DPRK were skilled enough to win the Grand prize and displayed their abilities to the maximum, adding it was really an unforgettable performance.

A French personage said, “I insist that the full points should be given to the Korean acrobatics. The best of the bests. The Korean stunt was amazing and surprised us all.”

How could you make such a wonderful achievement?

Our acrobats think of the honour of the country first when they are on the international stage.

It is their unanimous desire to return the favours bestowed on them as they developed their talents at Pyongyang Acrobatic School under the deep care of the state.

We will make redoubled efforts to demonstrate the appearance of our prospering socialist country to the world through our acrobatic works.
