Hungary opposes EU’s plan to ban import of energy from Russia
December 10, 2025The Hungarian minister of foreign affairs and trade opposed a plan of the European Union to ban the import of Russian energy through an SNS on December 3.
He branded the EU’s move as sanctions disguised as a trade policy.
If the import of natural gas from Russia is prohibited, the price of energy purchased by Hungarian families will increase at least three times, he said, asserting that it is impossible for Hungary to accept and implement the direction of the EU.
If the EU’s decision on prohibiting the use of energy resources from Russia is confirmed, Hungary will go to law over it, he stressed.
