Hoeguksu or noodles with seasoned sliced raw fish was relished by people in the coastal areas.

Through a long historical course, its recipe has been handed down until now. The savoury dish is popular among the Korean people. It is good for health as it is easily digestible.

The noodles are garnished with seasoned raw sliced white flesh of such fishes as walleye pollack with no fine bones and no fishy smell.

The seasoning for the noodles usually included salt, soy sauce, powdered red pepper, sesame, vinegar, spring onion and garlic, which were mixed evenly to make sauce or leave them separate for each person to select to suit his or her taste.

The dish was used a lot for the treatment of guests and for ceremonies.

It was registered as national intangible cultural heritage element No. 148.
