This year marks the 14th anniversary of the demise of Chairman Kim Jong Il.

On this occasion the DPRK people recollect the noble outlook on life of the Chairman who devoted all his life to the country and people.

Live for tomorrow!

One day in the mid-1990s when the DPRK was overcoming severe trials, Chairman Kim Jong Il told officials about what outlook on life the revolutionaries should have.

That day he said: A revolutionary should live not merely for today but for tomorrow. It is more important for the revolutionaries to live and struggle for tomorrow, not merely for today. I work, picturing our socialist country which will prosper forever and our people who will enjoy a worthwhile and happy life in its embrace.

He went on to say that it was his outlook on life to live not merely for today but for tomorrow.

To him, tomorrow meant the appearance of the prosperous country where the people would live happily with nothing to envy in the world.

‘Let us become roots!’

Chairman Kim Jong Il devoted his all to the country and people, continuing his high-intensity forced march till the last moments of his revolutionary life.

In February one year, an official told the Chairman that he would become a green leaf of a giant tree, vowing to devote himself to the country and the revolution.

Then the Chairman said: A man who works for revolution should resolve to become roots. A tree should have strong roots in order to grow well. It can grow into a strong giant tree only when its roots are strong and even a big tree will be blighted if its roots rot. A big tree with thick branches and leaves can stand imposingly because its healthy roots keep providing it with nutritive substances. A big tree is visible, but its roots are not. There are people who admire an armful-thick tree, but few who think of the roots supporting it. Roots work constantly in the ground for the big tree whether they are appreciated or not. Let us become the roots of the revolution–this is the outlook on life we revolutionaries should have today.

The Chairman consolidated the single-minded unity and invincible military might and sowed a myriad of seeds for the prosperity of the country, continuing his long arduous journey of patriotic devotion. He devoted himself not merely for today but for tomorrow like the invisible roots that support a big tree. His outlook on life serves as the guideline for the life of the DPRK people.
