As a bird under protection, the Mundok white crane lives in a vast expanse of tideland in the estuary of the Chongchon River and in plains in and around Mundok County of South Phyongan Province.

The area is inhabited by well over a hundred kinds of birds including this white crane.

Of them, 90-odd kinds of migrant birds pass the area in spring and autumn on their way to and from their breeding and wintering places.
