The Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations stressed that a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire should be realized without fail in the Gaza Strip in a speech at an open session of the UN Security Council on the Palestine-Israel issue on December 16.

Incidents violating the ceasefire agreement often occurred in Gaza over the past two months, killing hundreds of residents there, he said, adding that any risky act might frustrate the vulnerable ceasefire situation.

China strongly demands that Israel immediately fulfil its commitments specified in the ceasefire agreement to stop aggravating the tension, and ensure the aid activities of the UN organizations, he said.

He called on the international community to support Palestine’s earliest possible establishment of an independent state and its full membership of the UN.
