The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on December 17 to denounce the US for making military threats against Venezuela.

The statement said that the US’ persistent military threats against Venezuela constitute a flagrant violation of international laws, including the principles on freedom of navigation, maritime security and international trade, as well as the UN Charter, criticizing the US’ moves to obstruct free navigation of trade vessels sailing to and from Venezuela or capture them as explicit acts of piracy and armed robbery.

If the international community and the UN let the US indulge in the unilateral aggression against sovereign states, the international relationship would plunge into a state of extreme disorder and the world peace and security be seriously threatened, it warned.

The UN, the Non-aligned Movement and all responsible countries and international organs should have keen awareness of the seriousness of the present situation, censure the US’ unreasonable threats and bring it to account over the violation of the international laws and UN Charter, it stressed.
