Russian President Vladimir Putin called for fighting against the distortion of history as he addressed an informal summit meeting of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in St Petersburg on December 22.

He said that member nations of the CIS should jointly counter the attempts to distort history, especially all attempts to distort the history of the Great Patriotic War.

Noting that the memories of history should be preserved and history distortion should not be allowed, he stressed the need to do the best to let young people know well about the heroic feats of the preceding generations who had won victory in the Great Patriotic War at the cost of huge sacrifice.
