Russia urges Japan to stop its attempt to negate war crimes

December 31, 2025

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged Japan to stop its attempt to whitewash its war crimes on December 25.

Accusing Japanese politicians of visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, a hateful symbol of militarism, she said that it would be well advised to build a memorial temple for victims of militarism if Japan wants to expiate its heinous war crimes.

Saying that the plan for building such a temple in Japan is not bad, she derided that this would enable the country to make offerings to it once or more frequently every year in order to repent of its crimes.

No one can ever imagine how many peaceful inhabitants were killed by Japanese militarism by what kind of method, but all the facts are recorded in history, she noted.

She stressed that Russia urges Japan once again to stop trying to whitewash its inhuman past, and fully recognize the result of the Second World War.
